This is completely dependent on the amount of hours that you complete the course in and the aircraft that you wish to train in. A minimum of 45 hours of flight time is required to pass the course, however some may require more hours to cover all the content required.

Other costs include the purchasing of ground school books and examinations, landing fees at other airfields, flying club membership, navigational equipment, amongst others.

Home landing fees at our Deenethorpe Aerodrome base are included in your hourly rate, saving you a huge cost throughout your training.

There is no set time for completion of a UK Private Pilot Licence. Factors which may affect the time it takes to complete can range from personal circumstances (funding, work hours, other commitments), to external factors such as weather.

The PPL course is a minimum of 45 hours flight training

You can begin learning and logging hours from the age of 14. You can complete your first solo from the age of 16 and can apply for your licence from the age of 17.

No, not at all! We strongly recommend carrying our a trial flying lesson before commencing training to make sure that flying is for you.

We would recommend checking out our trial lessons and flight experiences to try out flying for yourself before commencing on the course.

You will need to meet medical requirements appropriate for the licence that you are wishing to underake.

For a UK Private Pilot’s Licence, you need to meet the criteria for a UK Class 2 Medical Certificate. This will be carried out by a licensed Aeromedical Examiner.

If you are later looking to go commercial, then you will need to meet the requirements for a UK Class 1 Medical Certificate. This is not needed for PPL, but is worth considering if you are later looking to fly commercially and want to make sure that there are no underlying issues which may prevent you doing so.

Both Class 2 and 1 medical certificates need to be revalidated at time periods specific to your age. It is worth checking these to budget for their revalidation.

Note: You receive a Class 2 medical certificate automatically if you pass a Class 1. 

Once you pass your skills test, you will be presented with a UK Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and a Single Engine Piston (SEP) Rating. The privileges of the PPL licence allow you to take passengers up in any Single Engine Piston aircraft providing you have completed 3 take-off and landings in the previous 90 days.

Your Single Engine Piston Rating needs to be renewed every two years. As long as you have completed 12 hours of SEP flying (12 take-offs and landings) during the last 12 months of your SEP (of which a minimum of 6 hours must be pilot in command) and you just need a signed off 1 hour dual flight with an instructor at some point in those 12 months

Whilst we don’t set an amount of hours needed to fly each month or week, regular flying helps to keep you in practise and often means that you progress more quickly through the course.

To make good progression on the course, we generally advise flying at least twice a month.

Depending on the aircraft type used for training, there may well be a weight restriction.

Your UK Private Pilot Licence allows you to travel outside of the UK.

After a check flight with one of our instructor team, you’ll be cleared to take friends and family abroad in our aircraft!
